The 16th Annual Father & Son Golf Classic took place Saturday, July 16th at Butlers Golf Course in Elizabeth, PA. This event has proven to be one of the more popular events in the Pittsburgh region. This event is unique in the fact of how it was started sixteen years ago. “I was trying to find a way to play golf with my son Mitchell who had little interest in golf,” said Tom Poljak, Publisher of Golfer’s Lifestyle Magazine. “It is great to be able to golf with Mitchell who now loves the game.” Many “Father and Son” events are strict about who can play. This event has had mothers, daughters, uncles, grandfathers and of course fathers and sons participate in the event over the years. “For me it is important to allow any parent figure who wants to play with someone who is important to them,” added Poljak.
This year was very unique indeed. “I would never say something was an act of god if I didn’t truly mean it,” said Poljak. We at Golfer’s Lifestyle Magazine take great pride in running a quality event that everyone is in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Organizing giving a skill prize for both the fathers and sons for each hole at the end of the event and calculating the winners is a very frantic time for publisher Tom Poljak. When sorting the “blind draw” for winning teams, Poljak realized that he and his son Mitchell were included in the list of team names. He removed his team and this caused the second winning team to move up and win. When he announced the second winning team and noticed the emotion on the face of the winner he instantly knew what had happened. “Marshall Florence and his father Karl played in our event for years and they actually were one of the winning teams in 2021. Karl passed this past year and Marshall decided to play anyway. He asked if he could bring a replacement for his father in his memory and of course, we agreed. Karl was definitely looking down on all of us on that beautiful afternoon and I’m sure he was with Marshall every shot that day at Butlers. Life is good and god is great,” articulated Poljak.
Congratulations to All of Our Fathers and Sons! You are All Winners!
