Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting with Christian Knapp to present him with the award for Best Hole No. 15 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. While he narrowly missed out on top honors in several categories, he made quite an impression by also finishing as the runner-up for the prestigious Best Greens award. With a smile, he expressed his determination to claim that title next year.
In that moment, I couldn’t help but notice Christian’s striking resemblance to his late father, Eric Knapp. The passion and excitement for the course that Eric instilled have been revitalized under Christian’s leadership, bringing back the spirit that was so dearly missed since Eric’s passing in 2009.
I fondly reminisced about my own experiences with Eric, whose dedication to Pheasant Ridge transformed it into a par-72, 6,578-yard layout after acquiring the former Sandy Ridge (9-hole) Golf Course property in 1998. Eric’s pride was evident, and his legacy continues through Christian, who was only 15 when his father passed away from throat cancer. It’s heartwarming to see Christian stepping up, channeling that same zeal and commitment to the course. The future is indeed bright at Pheasant Ridge.
Pheasant Ridge earned the honor of Best Hole No. 15 in the inaugural Western Pennsylvania Golf Choice Awards and also claimed a close runner-up spot in the Best Greens category as that is one of the most coveted awards in the region.
The course boasts a unique layout filled with challenging holes and breathtaking views. During my recent visit, I was impressed by the exceptional condition of the fairways and greens. The clubhouse attendant and other employees were not only friendly but also incredibly helpful, adding to the welcoming atmosphere.
Pheasant Ridge is a true gem in the Pittsburgh area, with outstanding holes framed on various spots which featured trees and bunkers that demand strategic play. This course is not only visually stunning but also challenges golfers to think critically about their game.
