The club’s rich history began in 1961 when visionaries Harton “Bud” Semple, William George, and the Oliver brothers—David, John, and Henry came together to establish Sewickley Heights Golf Club. Initially earmarked for an airport, the founders hired renowned golf course architect Jim Harrison, and in just a year, the club opened its doors.
Bud Semple’s legacy still lives on today, as he aimed to create a course that was both challenging and fun. His influence was far-reaching; he later became president of the United States Golf Association and played a pivotal role in hosting the prestigious US Women’s Amateur in 1966, where JoAnne “Big Mama” Gunderson-Carner won in what remains the longest final round match in the event’s history.
Since its inception, Sewickley Heights has hosted some of golf’s greatest players, including Palmer, Player, and Trevino. Local legend Carol Semple Thompson has also left an indelible mark on the club, with her impressive accomplishments reflecting the rich tradition of greatness that defines Sewickley Heights.
The Clubhouse offers a first-class dining experience, featuring the formal Dining Room, Lounge, Grill Room, and Outside Patio.
